Five-Star Reads of 2025

We are almost half-way through 2025. Writing that out is pretty crazy given that it feels like it was just January not too long ago. Within these last five months, I have read 27 books. Out of those 27, I rated FOUR of them five-stars. If you’re looking for your next great read, something to get you out of a reading slump, or a pick for the Summer, take a chance with one of these recommendations.

#1

Book: First-Time Caller

Author: B.K Borison

Publisher: Berkley (2025)

Overall Rating: 5/5

Immediately, yes. The writing in this book is so cute, so funny, so perfect. It was my first five-star of the year. Aiden and Lucie, our two main characters, fit so well together. The small details and interactions between them hooked me. Pick this one up if you want to feel like you’re watching a classic, early 90’s romcom.

Book: Sunrise on the Reaping

Author: Suzanne Collins

Publisher: Scholastic Press (2025)

Overall Rating: 5/5

I knew what I was getting myself into with this one. I did this to myself. This book is the newest addition to the Hunger Game series so I would say pick this one up once you’ve read the others first (which I really recommend you do. Those books are fantastic). You're never too old to read The Hunger Games series. It's going to be a classic. This one is an emotional ride and all I’m going to say is that there is action and turmoil left and right. When you finish this book, you'll be a bit angry, a bit sad, but very glad that you decided to give it a go.

#3

Book: The Seven Year Slip

Author: Ashley Poston

Publisher: Berkley (2023)

Overall Rating: 5/5

This book is a ten out of ten. It felt like watching a warm, cozy movie. Some of the best things are in this book: City life, lived-in apartments, great food, fun hobbies, layered characters, natural and engaging dialogue. It was perfect. Also, the book was very well-paced. I found myself not wanting to put it down, but alas, work got in my way. With Summer about to be in full swing, I say go get this one and try it out!

Book: Before I Let Go

Author: Kennedy Ryan

Publisher: Forever (2022)

Overall Rating: 5/5

This was my most recent five-star read of the year.  This was BEAUTIFUL. The romance and the family dynamics and the dialogue on trauma and mental health, all so well done. Pick this one up if you are looking for something with a bit more depth than a cheesy romance or a beach read. This truly was one of my favorite books I've ever read. This is the first book in the Skyland series (a trilogy). Believe me when I say I was ready to scratch everything off my May TBR to read the next book, it was just that good.
