5/5 stars. Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross is a masterpiece. The magic system, world-building, characters, plot, writing, and details are all well-executed, coming together to create a beautiful story fit for any type of reader.
This fantasy story is dual-pov, following Matilda, a goddess torn between three realms, and her mortal lover, Vincent. This is something that rarely turns out well. The novel is both Matilda’s personal story as well as her and Vincent’s love story. This storyline evokes every emotion possible within the reader. Even though I don’t gravitate towards the fantasy genre, this book captivated me from start to finish. It was incredibly fast-paced, and there was constantly something happening - you won’t need your bookmark very often with this one. Rebecca Ross’ writing is fun and whimsical. She wrote every character with such depth that I felt strong feelings - good and bad - towards each one she included.
Some plots/themes in this book:
Coming-of-age/ Identity
Love
War
Death
Found Family
Power/Heroism
You don’t need to read her previous novels to read this one, but you should definitely read them at some point. The way she connects everything to the other books in this same world - Divine Rivals - is genius. Finishing the epilogue made me want to reread the Divine Rivals duology all over again. No notes. Read this one as soon as it comes out!
